Squirrels 4, Eagles 3 (SO)

The Squirrels beat the first-place Eagles on Wednesday, but not without drama. For the second game in a row, the Squirrels allowed a late-game tying goal as the opponent pulled its goalie. This time, they prevailed in a shootout.

Vivek Pinto got the scoring started in the first period, while the Eagles tied the game early in the second period. In the third, Emily Emmons rushed over from another game, lined up on the right wing, and scored on after taking the puck up the wing, cutting to the middle and shooting it through the low corner. The Eagles tied it again, but more than halfway through the period, Mike Bartock put the Squirrels up 3-2. The Eagles pulled their goalie and scored with 14 seconds to go in the period.

In the shootout, Tim Stump and Bartock scored, while the Eagles had a goal wiped out after it hit the post and bounced in off the goalie, which doesn’t count in a shootout.

Tony Richelsen assisted on each Squirrels goal.
