The Screaming Squirrels faced off against the Wiley Gunters for the second time in a row, and while the result was the same – a 4-3 loss – the Squirrels made it interesting down the stretch.
Pat Reilly scored the first of his three goals in the first period to put the Squirrels up, 1-0. But the Wiley Gunters scored three in a row in the second period, before Reilly scored late in the second to pull the Squirrels within one.
The Squirrels had power play where they came within inches of scoring, more than once, but couldn’t get the tying goal. Soon after, the Wiley Gunters scored again. After killing a 4-on-4 and killing a penalty, the final minute got interesting, as the Wiley Gunters appeared to have scored but were instead called for a penalty. Ten seconds were added back on the clock, the Squirrels pulled Craig Beatty out of the net, and Reilly scored to pull the Squirrels within 1 with 25 seconds left. The Squirrels got zone time and chances, but couldn’t get the equalizer.
