With a third-period surge, the Screaming Squirrels pulled away from the Cruisers on Wednesday, 9-4.
The Squirrels took a quick two-goal lead in the first, narrowly missing a third, before giving up two. In the second, the teams traded goals, and the Cruisers even had a chance to take the lead.
Late in the second period, Vivek Pinto scored with 11 seconds remaining to give the Squirrels a 4-3 lead going into the third period. Then the Squirrels pulled away, scoring three more times in the next two shifts. The Cruisers got one back and the Squirrels scored the last two.
Bob Valdes, Neil Shah and Pinto each had two goals for the Squirrels.
Merritt Lyon played in net.
