Squirrels 4, Wiley Gunters 3 (SO

The last-place Squirrels had the odds stacked against them Sunday as they faced the first-place Wiley Gunters (previously known as Heineken Light), who already beat them twice this season. Playing with a back-up goalie and missing three guys to start the game as they drove over from their Clams game in Rockville, the Squirrels only gave up one goal in the first period before more players showed up.

Mario Constantinou, who would have all three Squirrels goals, first scored on the power play in the second period, but the Gunters tacked on two more in less than a minute to go up 3-1 with a bit more than a period remaining. But a late power play gave the Squirrels another good chance and Constantinou scored his second of the game.

Only two minutes into the third, Neil Sha’s drop pass set up Constantinou for another. The Gunters were swarming – much of the game they had possession – but the Squirrels held tight for the tie.

In the shootout, sub goalie Nance Streifel made two saves while Constantinou and Bartock each scored on theirs.
