The Squirrels lost a game they knew they could win Friday, clawing back in the third period before tired legs got the better of them in a 6-5 loss to the Brewins. While the Squirrels only had 8 skaters, the Brewins had 7, so both teams looked sluggish and the play looked laughable at times, as the Squirrels fell to 0-2 on the season.Continue reading→

Squirrels 10, Brewins 2

The Screaming Squirrels kicked off the season in dominating fashion, though they had the luxury of beating a team who only had five skaters for the majority of the game before two other showed up. In the end, the Squirrels started the season with a 10-2 win, but the real story is how good this team can be.

Three new players suited up for the Squirrels – Marc Irby and Ari Stock – both of whom came from the roller team and combined for 10 points, and defenseman Joe Ponzetti, who proved to be solid on the blue line.

Ice Playoffs: Squirrels 7, Brewins 2

After a three-week layoff, the Squirrels couldn’t have asked for a better first-round opponent on Friday, as they easily defeated the Brewers, 7-2, despite only have six skaters.

The Squirrels went up 4-0 in the first period when their legs were still fresh, gave up a goal in the second, then scored three more in the third before the Brewers scored in the closing seconds. Neil Shah and Brent Machado each scored twice for the Squirrels, with the other goals by Jon Danziger, Don Marks and Doug Winters.

The Squirrels will next play Wolfe Pack on Sunday at 4. The Squirrels were 1-2 against them this season.
