The Squirrels only had an modest 2-0 lead in the first period Sunday when Tony Richelsen took the puck coast-to-coast, scoring shorthanded at the buzzer in the most well-timed shot of the season. Only Richelsen had no idea how much time was remaining – he just shot it and it went in. But it stood as the game winner as the Squirrels skated away with an 8-2 victory behind Dave Steckel’s hattrick, including a wrap-around shot. Richelsen added a second shorthanded goal. Tom Fischer and Bob Valdes also scored for the Squirrels.
