There was a question whether the 10:30 p.m. Saturday night hockey game would even be played, as the Squirrels only had six committed skaters and the Laughing Skulls had just a goalie on the ice for warm ups. But then the beer league knuckleheads got their act together and played a solid game, with the Squirrels prevailing, 6-2.
It was the first time this season that the Squirrels topped the Skulls. Luke Chung got the scoring started with an individual effort. The Squirrels then scored twice using the same play – a centering pass and one-timer – once by Pat Reilly and another by Mario Constantinou with four seconds remaining in the period.
The Skulls got a couple of special teams goals in the second, including a short-handed goal and a power play goal, while Chung added his second of the game.
In the third, Reilly scored twice more.
Multiple other games had been played during the day – many with the same players – leaving fatigued teams on the ice.
