The first game of the season looked good for both teams on Sunday, but the Outsiders got the better of the Squirrels, 3-2, in a shootout.
In a highly competitive game, the Outsiders struck first in the second period, before Bob Valdes put in a Vivek Pinto rebound to tie it.
Early in the third period, the Squirrels gave up a power play goal to go down 2-1. In the waning minutes, Don Marks took a slap shot and scored in the upper left corner to tie the game and send it to a shootout. The Outsiders scored twice in the shootout but the Squirrels didn’t.
