Though the Squirrels dominated possession and scoring changes on Friday, their 2-1 lead was anything but safe going into the third period, but penalties and effort gave them the 4-2 victory against 2intheBox.
The Squirrels had a 2-0 lead with two goals in 14 seconds in the first period. Geoff Grek’s slap shot deflected in, and shortly after, Brent Machado got his own rebound and scored to give the Squirrels the lead.
The Squirrels didn’t hold back, but couldn’t score in the second. Instead, 2inthebox scored a power play goal to cut the Squirrels lead to 2-1.
In the third, Bob Valdes game the Squirrels some breathing room, but 2inthBox scored shortly after to once again cut the lead to one. They took two minors down the stretch, and Mike Bartock scored on an empty net to seal the victory.
