The Screaming Squirrels fought back from a 2-0 deficit, with three third-period goals Friday, but fell in a shootout to 2intheBox.
For more than two periods, the Squirrels couldn’t get anything going on offense, giving up a goal a period, including one in the last six seconds of the second.
Early in the third period, the Squirrels committed a penalty, but the ref missed who took it so the Squirrels had their choice for who to put in the box. Needless to say, the Squirrels didn’t put the correct person in the box, and then later, the person who actually committed the penalty, Brent Machado, ended up scoring for the Squirrels.
Tim Turk and Vivek Pinto scored shortly after but the Squirrels penalties eventually caught up with them. Giving 2intheBox their second 5-on-3 of the game, the Squirrels gave up the equalizer more than halfway through the third period, then gave up one goal in the shootout for the loss.
