Squirrels 4, Stealthy Choice 3 (SO)

The Squirrels stole a victory from Stealthy Choice on Tuesday, overcoming a lack of subs in a 4-3 shootout victory.

With only one sub in the first period, the Squirrels went down 2-0 fairly quickly.

At the end of the second period, the teams traded two coincidental minors, leaving the Squirrels with no subs and a single coincidental penalty away from a forfeit due to lack of players.

In the third period, with no subs on the bench, Mark Tessar scored. Shortly after, Don Marks tied the game on the power play (only eight seconds into the penalty). Stealthy Choice regained the lead only moments later, then Mark Tessar came off the bench and tied the game on the very next shift.

The Squirrels spent much of the game clearing the puck and goalie Ryan Griffiths came up big saving 44 shots. Tessar scored the only goal of the shootout in the third round for the victory.

Ben Sumner won the majority of his faceoffs, particularly against Jason Flanagan, who stopped taking faceoffs in the third period because it obviously wasn’t working for him.
