The Squirrels blew a 2-0 lead in the first, then a 4-2 lead midway through the second period Tuesday, letting in five straight goals en route to a 7-4 loss.

In a game with plenty of shots but only two goals, the High Rollerz needed a two-round shootout to topple the Squirrels. Stu Miller made 33 saves in net while Don Marks scored the lone goal for the Squirrels.

The new-look Squirrels caught a break Thursday, as the Whale’s rusty first period was worse than the Squirrels’ second period lackluster performance.

Up 4-0, the Squirrels finally surrendered a goal late in the first period. The Squirrels even went up 5-1, then 6-2 in the second, before Whale scored three straight. The Squirrels survived, however, killing off the final minutes like a penalty kill.

All three new players, Matt Ekinci, Kevin Schneider, and Dave Parks figured into the scoring.
