The Squirrels lost badly Wednesday, falling 8-0 to the Bullets. Despite the lopsided final, the Squirrels had many chances to score goals, but just couldn’t get one past the goalie.

The Highlanders got revenge on the Squirrels on Sunday after a loss earlier in the season, running away with a 6-1 victory. Jon Danziger scored the only goal for the Squirrels in the first period.

The Squirrels’ three-game winning streak came to a halt Sunday as the Laughing Skulls topped them with a 4-3 win.

Brent Machado, Ben Sumner and Neil Shah scored for the Squirrels, while Torrey Pocock made 31 saves.

Squirrels 6, Heat 5

The Squirrels won what at one point had the making of a blowout, but slowly became a nail-biter Monday in a thrilling 6-5 win against the Howard County Heat.

The Squirrels got off to a bad start, however, as they took a penalty only 14 seconds into the game and gave up a power play goal.

Jon Danziger tied it before the Squirrels took a couple more penalties. That turned out fine, however, as Amy Reich (who returned from injury) and Tero Moberg each scored shorthanded only 7 seconds apart. Brent Machado then scored less than a minute after that to put the Squirrels up 4-1 going into the second period.

Two more goals by Machado gave the Squirrels a commanding 6-1 lead with about half the game remaining. The Heat scored two quick goals to cut the lead to 6-3 going into the third, then scored two more with more with more than 8 minutes remaining.

The Squirrels killed off the rest of the game like a penalty, staving off what could’ve been an embarrassing Heat comeback and avenging a 7-2 loss to back in January.

It was the third win in a row for the Squirrels.
