Ice: Whalers 4, Squirrels 2

Posted on by

The Squirrels only had two subs and put up a major fight, but couldn’t close the deal Saturday in a 4-2 loss to the Whalers.

After a scoreless first period, the Whalers finally got on the board in a really bad way – short handed – and then added another as they entered the final frame with a 2-0 lead. But then the Squirrels had two spectacular plays in a shot span. Tony Richelsen made a power move into the zone and passed the puck to Terry Young, who passed it back to Richelsen who then cut the lead to 2-1. Moments later, Neil Shah did something similar, this time getting the puck to Young who put it in.

At 2-2, the Squirrels had momentum but fatigue settled in. The Whalers scored two more in less than 35 seconds, then held on despite several great plays by the Squirrels.

Roller: Squirrels 7, Jesters 4

Posted on by

With only two subs in an extremely hot rink, the Squirrels got revenge on the Jesters on Thursday, as their goalie allowed an uncharacteristic 7 goals, including 5 in the second period, as the Squirrels ran away with a 7-4 win.

It was tight in the first period, as Vivek Pinto and Charles Warner each scored but the game was tied 2-2 going into the half. Pinto snuck one through in the first shift of the second period but it was a 3-2 game for the next nine minutes. Then the Squirrels scored three straight in only a couple of minutes. The Jesters still had legs, however, adding two more though Greg Hainer also scored to put the game out of reach.

The Squirrels took over second place with the win, only 3 points behind the Dinosaurs, who lost their first of the season Thursday.

Laughing Skulls 6, Squirrels 0

Posted on by

The oddest part about Wednesday’s 6-0 loss for the Squirrels was that they really didn’t play that badly. Despite plenty of chances and even possession time, the Squirrels simply couldn’t get the puck past the goalie. The Squirrels also happened to be missing their top three points producers.

Roller: Squirrels 6, Silver Spring 0

Posted on by

The Squirrels dominated the short-handed Silver Spring team Tuesday, putting up 4 goals in the first en route to a 6-0 victory. It took a power play midway through the first half when Vivek Pinto sniped home a shot. Off the very next face-off, Pinto took the puck from center and right through everyone to score only 9 seconds later. Amy Reich scored, and Pinto added his third from a kick-pass from Charles Warner.

Both Reich and Arie Stock scored in the second half, and Stu Miller kept the puck out of the net for a shutout.
