The Squirrels and Laughing Skulls put up some offense Saturday, with the Squirrels coming out on top, 7-5.
Jon Der got the scoring started in the first period with a shot through a defenseman to give the Squirrels a 1-0 lead, but that was the only scoring in the first period. Laughing Skulls scored two quick goals in the second period, but Mario Constantinou answered shortly after to tie the game, 2-2. Then the Laughing Skulls scored again, but Don Marks’ slap-shot tied the game, 3-3 going into the final frame.
Nate Groves scored from the left wing to put the Squirrels up, 4-3 early in the third period, and that score held for several more minutes, making it look like it was going to be a tight finish. But the Squirrels had three more goals in them, as Groves, Bob Valdes and Geoff Grek each scored to give the Squirrels a four-goal cushion. Laughing Skulls scored twice more but time ran out.
Dave Tran subbed in net for the Squirrels.
