The Squirrels took a couple of leads, but gave up a late one in a 5-4 loss to the Thundercats on Thursday.
Neither team generated much offense in the first period, but Nate Groves got the Squirrels on the board late in the first. Jason Wilf extended the lead for the Squirrels early in the second, but the Thundercats scored three in a row to take a 3-2 lead. The Squirrels did, however, kill off a two-man advantage in the second, but gave up a goal shortly after.
Mario Constantinou tied the game late in the second period, then scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period off of a give-and-go. The Squirrels took a late penalty, then surrendered the power play goal before the Thundercats scored another shortly after.
The Squirrels pulled their goalie, but couldn’t find the equalizer.
