Roller: Squirrels 10, Team Mylec 0

Despite not scoring a goal for the first 7:50 of the game, the Squirrels put up 8 first period goals Tuesday en route to an easy 10-0 victory against Team Mylec. This was without their two most prolific scorers, Amy Reich and Casey Carpenter. To Team Mylec’s credit, they didn’t give up, pressing to the very end. Ed Owen, who played in net for the Squirrels, had a 15-save shutout.

Vivek Pinto led the Squirrels with 3 goals and 3 assists.

Roller: Squirrels 3, TWSS 2

A nearly complete Squirrels squad played Tuesday, winning but hardly putting together their best effort in a 3-2 victory against That’s What She Said.

The only missing player for the Squirrels was goaltender Stu Miller , who was watching from the stands as he nursed an ankle injury. The High Rollers’ goalie played in his place.

Marc Irby and Casey Carpenter scored to put the Squirrels up 2-0 in the first, but TWSS kept pressing and winning many races to the puck. They scored in the first, and seven minutes into the second as the teams were tied 2-2 down the stretch. A late power play for the Squirrels yielded chances but no goal. Finally, Carpenter netter his second late in the game to give the Squirrels a 3-2 lead, keeping them in second place in the league.

Ice: Squirrels 4, Hockey Donkeys 3

The Squirrels barely survived a late game flurry Tuesday, getting lucky that one extra second wasn’t on the clock, as they managed a 4-3 win that wasn’t as close as the final score seemed.

Hockey Donkeys got on the board in the first period, but a 5-on-3 power play early in the second helped net them two goals in the first three minutes. Tony Richelsen scored the first from the blue line, then Ben Sumner smacked in a rebound after Vivek Pinto’s shot. Shortly after, Rob Meyers scored, then Jon Danziger roofed a shot as the Squirrels went up 4-1 going into the third.

The Squirrels played fine in the third period, keeping the puck and developing several chances. But Hockey Donkeys found the net about midway through, killed a penalty, then had a mad scramble in the closing minutes. They scored again with 42 second remaining, and got a shot away at the buzzer which hit the goalie and went in. But it was too late, and the Squirrels came away with the victory in the regular season finally.

Brent Machado led the Squirrels in scoring with 20 points, including a league-leading 14 assists, while Danziger led the team in goals with 11. The Squirrels finished in fourth place, though several of the losses came early against the higher division.

Squirrels 5, Stealthy Choice 1

The Squirrels snapped a losing skid Sunday, winning the little battles despite having only two subs as they beat Stealthy Choice, 5-1.

Tony Richelsen got the scoring started in the first period as he was left alone in the low slot for a slam-dunk. In the second period, Brent Machado and Vivek Pinto made a mad dash for the net to start the period, giving the Squirrels a 2-0 lead. About halfway through the game, Stealthy Choice finally got a puck past the goal line, squeezing it through Torrey Pocock’s right side on a wrap-around. A few minutes later, Chi Pham took the puck on a 2-on-1 and roofed a shot to regain the 2-goal lead.

With plenty of time left and tired legs, the Squirrels still managed to shut down Stealthy Choice in the third period. Ben Sumner scored twice, once on a back-hand whack, and another on a second-chance under the goalie’s pads. Pham assisted on both.

The last game of the season is Monday at 8 p.m.

Roller: Dinosaurs 9, Squirrels 4

The Dinosaurs simply got the best of the Squirrels on Tuesday, taking advantage of their long bench as the Squirrels were missing several key players.

Despite the six first-period goals and three second-period goals, the Squirrels did find some offense. Matt Ekinci stole the puck from a Dinosaurs player right behind his net and slammed in a shot for a 1-0 lead. Later, Charles Warner capitalized off of a turnover and deked out the goaltender, before Ben Sumner hit in a rebound off of Arie Stock’s shot as the Squirrels cut the lead to 5-3. That was as close as they got. Late in the game, Amy Reich made a pretty move down low, sending the goalie scrambling as she netted a power play goal.
