Playing their first game of the new year, the Squirrels dusted off the Bullets on Thursday with a 6-4 victory.
Matt Wolf, Demetri Bedel and Emily Emmons each scored in the first period to give the Squirrels a 3-0 lead, but the Bullets turned things around in the second period with two early goals.
Bedel scored his second of the game on an awkward backhand shot the fooled the goalie to give the Squirrels a 4-2 lead. With less than a minute left in the period, Geoff Grek’s wide shot bounced behind the net and directly to Ben Sumner, who scored his first goal in more than a year.
The Bullets wouldn’t go away, as they scored two more times in the third period, but Jon Der’s insurance goal kept the game out of reach.
