Squirrels 3, Thundercats 1

The Squirrels got their first win of the season Tuesday, as they held off the Thundercats with a couple of early goals.

Bob Valdes scored the first goal of the game on a pass from Jason Gustafson, who spun around to deliver the back-handed pass on a move that was totally on purpose. The Thundercats tied the game shortly after on the only power play of the game. Later in the first, Tero Moberg scored after he fought off a defenseman to spring himself for a breakaway.

The game was scoreless in the second period, and most of the third, but the Thundercats had the shot advantage, 32-26. Squirrels goalie Craig Beatty made plenty of saves, while the Thundercats overpassed a few times and whiffed on their chances. Late in the third period, as the Squirrels were trying to run out the clock, Ben Sumner lobbed a pass through the crease to Mario Constantinou, who was tied up but used his body to deflect the puck into the net for the insurance goal.
