Playoffs: Squirrels 4, Thundercats 1

The Squirrels advanced to the championship game Sunday with a decisive 4-1 victory against the top-seeded Thundercats.

While the game was competitive, the Squirrels led from nearly the very beginning, when Tim Stump’s top-shelf shot gave them a 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the game. About two minutes later, Geoff Grek’s deflection put the Squirrels up 2-0.

After a scoreless second period, the Thundercats found life on a delayed penalty, when their player scored despite having a defender draped all over him. But a couple of minutes later, Mario Constantinou gave the Squirrels a 3-1 lead. Mike Bartock sealed the game with an empty-netter.

The Squirrels advance to face the Outsiders, a team that was undefeated in the higher division before being brought down to our level.
