The Squirrels ended up with a favorable matchup in the first round of the playoffs Friday, as they faced the Laughing Skulls, who they beat three of the last four times, and most lately, last Friday. This game ended up with a decisive 5-0 victory for the Squirrels, who advance to the semi-finals against the Thundercats on Sunday.
Despite the Squirrels’ 45-8 shot advantage, the score was much closer than it should have been. The first goal didn’t even happen until the last minute of the first period, when Dave Chung stick-handled his way through the defenders and scored an impressive goal to put the Squirrels on the board.
In the second period, Demetri Bedel scored twice, including once on the power play, to put the Squirrels up 3-0. The Squirrels had five power plays in the game.
Even midway through the third period, the score was still relatively close, but Mike Bartock got the fourth of the game when a pass bounced off of two separate Laughing Skulls defenders and into the net. Mario Constantinou added the fifth goal shortly after.
Luke Chung played his final game for the Squirrels, and is headed off to college on Sunday.
