Ice: Blades of Steel 7, Squirrels 2

With only total skaters again, the Screaming Squirrels couldn’t keep up with rival Blades of Steel on Sunday, falling 7-2. Mark Tessar and Brent Machado scored for the Squirrels.

Tessar, Machado, Nabil Allaoua, Ben Sumner, Desi Richelsen, Don Marks and Tero Moberg played for the Squirrels.

Ice: Strange Brew 8, Squirrels 3

The Squirrels only played with one sub Sunday, and though Strange Brew only had two themselves, they also had two sharp-shooters who combined for 12 points in an 8-3 win. The game featured one of the biggest crybaby moments the Squirrels have ever seen, when Michael Mcguire on Strange Brew threw a temper tantrum in the third period, purposely pushing the net off and then pushing it again. He received four total minutes. This was with an 8-3 lead and a minute to go.

Brent Machado scored twice, and had one goal waved off when he batted the puck into the net with his hand. Ben Sumner had the other. And yes, he whiffed on a slap shot with two seconds remaining in the game, much to the delight of everyone who watched.

This was revenge for Strange Brew, who previously lost to the Squirrels, 9-5, back in May.

The Squirrels kept pace with Rocky Hockey throughout the first two periods of the game, tying the score at 2-2 early in the third, before Rocky Hockey pulled away with four third period goals and then an empty netter for a 7-2 win. Mark Tessar and Jon Danziger scored for the Squirrels.

The Screaming Squirrels avenged an early-season loss to the first place Laughing Skulls on Sunday, scoring three third-period goals in route to a 7-5 victory. Down 5-4 going into the third period, Jon Danziger, Ben Sumner and Mark Tessar scored to lift the Squirrels to victory. Brent Machado had two goals and three assists, while Danziger and Don Marks had the other two goals.
