Blades of Steel 2, Squirrels 1 (SO)

Playing Blades of Steel for the first time, the Squirrels put up a good fight but fell in the overtime shootout. The Blades goaltender was credited with 56 saves, as Nabil Allaoua was credited with 19. Don Marks scored the only goal for the Squirrels, who fell to 0-1-1 on the season.

Squirrels Fall in Opener

The Squirrels won the last two games against the Renegades, including a nail-biter in the playoffs, but in the first game of the 2012-13 winter season, the Renegades squeaked by the Squirrels, 1-0, behind solid effort in net by backup goaltender Jason Karbling. The Squirrels, too, used a back-up goaltender – one they played against in the playoffs last year from the Laughing Skulls.
