The Squirrels had both offensive and defensive issues Sunday as they fell to the Laughing Skulls, 6-2.
After giving up a goal on the first shift, Demitri Bedel’s forehand-backhand move tied the game up halfway through the first period. But the Laughing Skulls scored twice more, including on the power play, to take a 3-1 lead.
Dave Chung’s crafty shot brought the Squirrels within one early in the second period, but the Skulls scored twice more.
Down 5-2, the Squirrels weren’t out of it yet, as a 5-on-3 power play gave them hope to scratch their way back. But instead, they gave up a back-breaking short-handed goal.
The final game of the regular season is Friday at 8:40 p.m.
