Sam Apple, longtime hockey commissioner at the Gardens Ice House in Laurel, formally announced his retirement to the players across the league Sunday. Apple handled both the ice and roller leagues.
“I wanted to announce this to everyone to squelch any rumors that may, or might, be floating about. It’s a decision that I have been thinking about for some time, and the time is right for me to go. That’s it, plain and simple.”
