The first game of the season was tied at one through two periods Monday, but the Squirrels ran away with it in the third with four unanswered goals. On top of that, the only goal they gave up was an own-goal. So not a bad start to the season for the Squirrels.

Squirrels Fall in Finals

In a matchup of the top two teams in the division, the Piranhas got the better of the Squirrels on Sunday by jumping out to a fast start, then holding on for a 5-3 win. It also marked the first time that the Squirrels’ ice team lost a championship match, while winning three titles since 2004.

The Squirrels will regroup for the Summer season, which begins in a couple of weeks.

Squirrels Advance to Finals

The Screaming Squirrels ice team advanced to the Bronze 2 league finals with a 6-2 victory against Fat Daddy on Tuesday.

Down 2-0 early, Tero Moberg put the Squirrels on the board late in the first period. Jon Danziger and Tom Fischer scored in the second to give the Squirrels a 3-2 lead going into the third. That’s when things got really interesting.

Early in the third, the Squirrels took two sets of double minors only 26 seconds apart, giving Fat Daddy nearly three and a half minutes with a 5-on-3 power play. The Squirrels killed it, and Fat Daddy fell apart as the Squirrels scored three more goals to close out the game.

The Squirrels will face the top-seeded Piranhas in the finals on Sunday at 6:50 p.m. on the Logsdon rink.

Squirrels Tie Their Way Into Second

A win would’ve put them in first, but instead the Squirrels tied and settled for finishing the regular season in second place, despite having the same number of points as the Piranhas, who finished in first with one extra victory. It was also the fourth tie in a row to end the season.

The Squirrels play this coming Saturday at 3 p.m. in the first round of the playoffs.
